OXDENMARQMost furniture brands would prefer you kept their work looking new. Oxdenmarq takes the opposite position: the leather is meant to be marked, and the marks are rather the point. Oxdenmarq has worked from the same premise since Dennis Marquart and Jakob Hanghøj founded it in 2003. Exclusive natural materials, kept in their most natural way.
Marquart trained as a blacksmith before he trained as a designer, and it is easy to see in the designs. Steel runs through most of the products as frames and joinery, and he still prototypes each piece himself at the Vejby workshop on the North Zealand coast in Denmark, an hour north of Copenhagen.
Cutting, welding, grinding and assembly happen under one roof. At a point when most Danish names have moved production somewhere cheaper, Oxdenmarq have kept things fundamentally Danish and produce everything in-house.

Materials that speak for themselves
The leather is vegetable-tanned saddle hide, a minimum of three millimetres thick, left with an untreated surface and sourced from free-ranging Spanish cattle. Insect bites and scarring are not corrected out. It arrives with customers pale and stiff, then spends the next decade darkening into something unique to the room it sits in. The KS, Trifolium and RAMA lounge chairs make the clearest case for this.
Marble is quarried in India, Italy and Spain, and appears mostly as table and stool tops; brass, copper, smoked glass and solid oak run through the rest of the range. The Porcelain Collection is new to the Oxdenmarq range, and brings the first fired material into the catalogue: hand-thrown tops in Celadon Green, Cloudy Grey and Ancient White, made with ceramist Jeanette Hiiri Marquart.
